Doubt and the Fear of Truly Living

_Doubt, Security and the Fear of Truly Living_
If we look honestly, most people don't suffer from their doubt, but from their search for security.
Doubt itself isn't really the big problem. Doubt is only doing what it is meant to do. It points out possibilities. It reminds us that something could go wrong. It shows us that we could fail, get hurt, lose money, or that a decision might not be the right one.
And if we're honest, it is often even right about that.
Of course a relationship can fail. Of course a project may not work out. Of course we can be mistaken. Of course we can lose.
Doubt is often much more intelligent than we give it credit for.
The real drama only begins in the moment we try to get rid of this doubt and reach a state in which we finally feel safe.
Because suddenly our decisions are no longer about aliveness, truth or what we really want, but only about one question:
How can I prevent anything from going wrong?
Suddenly we look for the safe job instead of a vibrant life. The safe relationship instead of a real encounter. The safe decision instead of the courageous one. The safe spirituality instead of an open exploration of what is true.
Only, that life doesn't exist.
There is no point at which you will know for sure that a relationship will last. There is no point at which you will know for sure that your project will succeed. There is no point at which you will know for sure that you will never fail again.
And that is exactly why so many people stand at the threshold of their own life and can't move forward. They are waiting for the right moment to come. For feeling ready. For the fear to go away. For the doubts to disappear.
But that moment doesn't come.
Because uncertainty is not a flaw in the system.
Change begins in exactly the moment we stop looking for security. Because when we stop clinging to security, something else begins to become visible.
A deeper intelligence. An inner movement. A letting go.
Something that sometimes simply knows it is time to go, even though the head still finds a hundred reasons against it.
Because real freedom is not the absence of fear and doubt, but the ability to follow the impulses of life despite fear and doubt.
