Being Free – Not as a Goal, but as a Remembering

_Being free – not as a goal, but as a remembering_
The longing for freedom is no coincidence. It is not a luxury problem and not a romantic idea. It is the quiet call of life itself, wanting to remember itself in us.
Many people believe freedom is something you have to achieve – by changing your circumstances, through healing, through insight, through enough money, enough security, enough control. But this is exactly where the misunderstanding begins.
Because freedom cannot be found as long as we are searching for it.
What we see again and again on our path: the wish for freedom often springs from a state of deep constriction. A constriction in the body, in thinking, in the nervous system.
And from within this constriction, freedom becomes a threat. Everything that is open, everything that is new, everything that is unpredictable triggers fear. Not because life is dangerous – but because trauma seeks safety. And safety only knows the familiar.
Trauma feels comfortable in constriction.
Not because constriction is good, but because it is familiar.
So we create a paradoxical dynamic: we long for freedom – and push it away at the same time.
We swap dependencies, change concepts, dissolve old attachments only to create new ones. The place stays the same. The lack of freedom remains, just in new clothes.
Freedom cannot be manufactured.
And it cannot be forced.
This shows itself especially clearly in the body. No one can willfully let go of a deep holding pattern. No one can decide to "finally" let a trauma go now.
Letting go doesn't happen through wanting. It happens in the moment the old is recognized as no longer necessary, no longer safe. Then something releases by itself. The breath becomes deeper. The shoulder becomes softer. An inner space opens without anyone having planned it.
Letting go is not a doing.
It happens.
We see this every day in our body-oriented work. When we fixate too much on one painful spot, pressure arises. Frustration. Even more constriction.
Only when the view widens, when other areas are given space, when the body is perceived and felt as a whole, can the held pattern release. Often exactly in the moment when no one is pulling at it anymore.
It's the same in life.
When we tie freedom to a single issue – money, relationships, health – we constrict the whole system. We overlook that freedom is not a single point, but a state of perception. An inner space from which we meet life.
You can only free constriction from within freedom.
Not the other way round.
That's why the path does not begin where it hurts most, but where spaciousness can already be felt. Where something is light. Where the body responds openly. Where a thought doesn't bind, but moves. From there we can approach the tight places again – not fighting, but listening. Not correcting, but feeling.
And then something decisive happens:
The constriction loses its reality.
It exposes itself as a construct – held by thinking, supported by the body, fed by old protective mechanisms. As soon as freedom is experienced, it becomes visible that the constriction has no substance. It is not a law. Not a fate. Not a verdict on our life.
Thinking will always find reasons why freedom "doesn't work for me". Physical limitations, outer circumstances, the past, responsibility, history. Not out of malice – but out of fear. Out of the wish for control. Yet it is exactly this logic that keeps the dream of suffering alive.
We are not here to suffer.
We are here to wake up.
Freedom doesn't mean that nothing is there anymore. The body remains. The feelings remain. Even the trauma may remain. But it is perceived from a different level of perception. From a level that is not bound. From a space that carries.
You are not the victim of your life.
You are life itself – in motion.
And the more this freedom is felt, the more the way we meet everyday life changes. It is not circumstances that set us free, but perception. It is not the outside that liberates us, but the inner spaciousness from which we see, feel and act.
Freedom is not a reward at the end of a path.
It is the ground on which every step takes place.
And perhaps everything begins with a simple, quiet question:
Where in me can freedom already be felt right now?
That is where the path begins. Always.
